A sentence is a meaningful group of words.



All the words can be divided into eight parts, known as parts of speech.


  1. Noun                                         2. Pronoun       3. Adjective


  1. Verb                                        5. Adverb                   6. Preposition


  1. Conjunction                             8. Interjection



  1. A noun is the name of a person, animal, place or thing e.g. Ram, Chandigarh, Chair, Dog.


  1. A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun e.g. he, she, it.


  1. An adjective is a word which tells what kind of, how many (or how much), what colour, persons, animals, places or things are e.g. good boy, blue shirt.


  1. A verb is an action word used to say what a person or thing does, what a person or thing is, or what a person or thing has. It is used to show doing, or being or possessing.


  1. An adverb is a word that adds to the meaning of a verb, modify itself and adjectives.


  1. A preposition is a word which shows the relation between a noun and a pronoun and some other words in a sentence e.g. on, in, out, away, etc.


  1. A conjunction is used to join words, group of words or sentences e.g. and, but, although.etc.
