PM GOES TO LAHORE, MAKES A CHRISTMAS DATE WITH HISTORY
1.With two unannounced stops, in Kabul and Lahore on Christmas day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rewrote the recent history of geo-politics in the region on Friday.
2.After he landed, Mr. Modi and Mr. Sharif, who embraced each other warmly on the tarmac, proceeded to board a Pakistani helicopter together to reach Raiwind, where celebrations for Mr. Sharif’s grand-daughter’s wedding were under way. It is learnt that officials were taken by surprise by Mr Modi’s decsion, including India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan T.C.A. Raghavan, who drove to Mr. Sharif’s residence in Raiwind, just outside Lahore, directly from Islamabad, making it just in time for Mr. Modi’s landing.
ASTRA MISSILE PROVES ANTI-JAMMING CAPABILITY
1.A crucial capability of the air-to-air Astra missile —its resistance to jamming — was successfully validated in recent trials conducted by missile scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which indigenously developed the compact missile.
2.The all-weather, radar homing missile has high manoeuvrability and capability to engage and destroy aerial targets at supersonic speeds. The 60-km plus range missile possesses Shot Kill Probability (SSKP) making it one of the most reliable in its class of weapon systems.
3.The missile could be launched at different altitudes from sea level to 20 km for engaging aerial targets at various ranges.
CHATTISGARH EMERGES AS TOP PERFORMER IN ‘DIGITAL INDIA WEEK’
1.The state has secured first position for its performance during Digital India Week. The state will receive the award from Communication and IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad on December 28
2.Within Chhattisgarh, the districts of Kondagaon, Koriya and Gariyaband were adjudged the best performers for its digital facilities and services to the people.
3.3.Chhattisgarh was followed by Himachal Pradesh which has bagged second position in the tally and Meghalaya at the third place.
SADHANA, HINDI FILM STYLE ICON OF 1960S, IS NO MORE
1.Sadhana Shivdasani, the woman who defined elegance and grace for Bollywood and its fans in the 1960s and beyond, died here on Friday following a brief, undisclosed illness. She was 74.
2.The “Sadhana Cut” is but one small tribute to an actor whose legacy remains alive with such films as Mera Saaya (1966), Woh Kaun Thi (1964), Gaban (1966), Mere Mehboob (1963), Ek Musafir Ek Hasina (1962), Hum Dono (1961), Rajkumar (1964), Waqt (1965), and Ek Phool Do Mali (1969). She was part of several other cinematic landmarks , but was possibly at the pinnacle of her acting abilities in these nine movies.
12TH CENTURY MONUMENT RESURRECTED FROM RUINS
1.Infosys Foundation that invested Rs. 4.5 crore to restore this 12th century Kalyan Chalukyas’ monument, it has regained its lost grandeur and has emerged as a model for conserving rich cultural heritage through public private partnership. It took three years to restore this monument.
CHENNAI TECHIE LIFTS INDIAN CROSSWORD LEAGUE TROPHY
1.Ramki Krishnan of Chennai emerged the winner of the Indian Crossword League (IXL) 2015 and lifted the National Crossword Champion Trophy on Friday. The 16 finalists were selected on the basis of the final Leader board formed after 10 online weekly rounds.
2.The contest began with a written round before six onstage finalists were selected. Besides Ramki Krishnan, Narayan Mandyam (Navi Mumbai), Dr. S. Venkatesh (New Delhi), Vinoo Sanjay (Mumbai), Mohsin Ahmed (Bangalore) and Venkatraghavan S. from Mumbai moved on to the last stage.
