UP DISTRICT SETS RECORD OF SORTS, CREATES 47,000 JOBS IN A SINGLE DAY!

Lucknow, May 4 : On Sunday, as International Labour Day was celebrated the world over, in the small town of Gonda, 130 km from here, a record of sorts was set, hitherto not much publicized: the creation of a staggering 47,000 rural jobs in a single day!

This, in a state which has attracted negative publicity in the past over its track record on creating rural jobs under MNREGA, the rural jobs scheme.

Not only this, 15 lakh (1.5 million) man days were created for the next ten days, leading to the spending of over Rs.38 crore that was lying unused and on verge of lapsing. As a result of careful and out-of-the-box planning, construction work was simultaneously started in 1,054 gram panchayats on a single day – May Day.

NOD FOR RS. 4,300 CRORE WORTH OF HIGHWAY PROJECTS

The Government on Wednesday approved two highway projects worth around Rs.4,300 crore, among a slew of other decisions.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave a nod to the four-laning of the Lucknow-Sultanpur section on National Highway-56 in Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs.2844.72 crore. The two-laning, with the formation of four lanes, of the Shimla Bypass (Kaithlighat to Shimla section) on National Highway-22 in Himachal Pradesh was the second project which was approved, at a cost of Rs.1583.18 crore.

JSW ENERGY TO BUY A JSPL POWER PLANT

Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Energy has agreed to buy his brother Naveen Jindal’s debt-laden Jindal Steel and Power’s 1,000 MW power plant in Chhattisgarh for an enterprise valuation of Rs.6,500 crore.

PANKAJ PIPS CHANDAN TO 400M GOLD

Pankaj Malik of Chandigarh pipped West Bengal’s Chandan Bauri by two-hundredths of a second to win the boys’ 400m gold on day two of the 14th junior Federation Cup National athletics championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Wednesday.

Pankaj trailed Chandan for much of the race only to find a final burst of energy and triumph in a photo-finish. His timing of 47.10s also helped him meet the upcoming Asian and World junior championships’ qualifying marks.
