The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Thursday accomplished the task of developing the country’s own navigation system with the successful launch of IRNSS-1G, the last in the series of seven navigation satellites. Here are 10 things to know about desi ‘GPS’:
Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C33 carrying IRNSS-1G (Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System) lifted off from the first launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 12.50pm on Thursday. Around 20 minutes after liftoff, PSLV-C33 successfully placed IRNSS-1G in orbit. The satellite has a 12-year mission life. The first satellite IRNSS-1A was launched in July 2013, the second IRNSS-1B in April 2014, the third on October 2014, the fourth in March 2015, and the fifth, sixth and seventh on January 20, March 10, and April 28 2016.
HARYANA JANHIT CONGRESS SET TO MERGE WITH CONGRESS
Bisnoi met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday to discuss the merger plan. The final approval by party chief Sonia Gandhi is likely to come very soon.
“The talks are at a very advanced stage. The merger will further strengthen the Congress support base in the state,” said Congress general secretary in-charge of Haryana, Shakeel Ahmad, adding that the merger is “unconditional”.
“Bhajan Lal And His Family Has Been With Congress…We Want Bisnoi To Join Us,” He Said.
The HJC has two MLAs in the Haryana assembly – Bishnoi and his wife Renuka Bishnoi. The HJC was formed by Bhajan Lal after he parted ways with the Congress in 2007.

His new wax statue on Thursday arrived at the Baker Street attraction from Delhi, where the Prime Minister had a private viewing with his likeness last week.
Madame Tussauds said Modi was closely involved in the creation of his statue and expressed delight with the final results, declaring that the Madame Tussauds team is “exceptional at what they do”.
General manager of Madame Tussauds London, Edward Fuller said, “We are delighted that Mr Modi was able to see the statue in India last week, and to welcome him to Madame Tussauds London today. It’s wonderful that our visitors now have the chance to get up close to this influential leader, who is the source of so much public interest”.
He added, “It’s not every day you get to stand alongside the statesmen and women shaping our world and we think guests will relish the chance to rub shoulders with Mr Modi.”
Modi’s statue is dressed in his signature creamish ‘kurta’ with jacket and he is featured in a traditional pose making a namaste gesture. London’s wax work is one of the PM’s four statues, with the other three put up at Madame Tussauds attractions in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok
MODI INVITED TO ADDRESS JOINT SESSION OF U.S. CONGRESS
He will be the fifth Prime Minister of India to address a joint meeting of Congress, and the first since 2005.
U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address a joint meeting of Congress when he visits the U.S. capital in June. India has not announced the PM’s visit yet, but Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar is in Washington to finalise the agenda of the visit that is reportedly at the behest of U.S. President Barack Obama.
Making an announcement at his weekly press conference on Thursday, Mr. Ryan said Mr. Modi’s address could be likely on June 8. This will be the first joint meeting of Congress during his speakership.
