ALL EXCEPT TAMIL NADU TO ENACT FOOD SECURITY ACT BY 2016
Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan said on Monday that all states and union territories, except Tamil Nadu, would implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA) by April 2016. Though 11 more states and union territories have started implementing the Act in the last six months, 14 are yet to roll out the NFSA.

The noted labour economist Dr. T.S. Papola passed away in Delhi on Monday. He was 74.A founder Member, former director and currently honorary professor at the Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID), New Delhi, Dr. Papola was also chairman, Giri Institute of Development Studies, Lucknow; founder member of the Institute for Human Development (IHD), New Delhi and Chairman of the Fourth State Finance Commission of Uttarakhand.
INDIA, MALAYSIA VOW TO STRENGTHEN DEFENCE TIES
India and Malaysia have agreed to strengthen their defence cooperation, including improved maritime security and disaster response in the region.Besides agreeing to regular summits, ministerial dialogues and official meetings, the two countries have agreed to cooperate in cybersecurity.
PFIZER TO BUY ALLERGAN IN $160 BILLION DEAL
Pfizer Inc said it would buy Botox maker Allergan Plc in a deal worth $160 billion to slash its U.S. tax bill, rekindling a fierce political debate over the financial maneuver.The acquisition, which would create the world’s largest drugmaker and shift Pfizer’s headquarters to Ireland, would also be the biggest-ever instance of a U.S. company re-incorporating overseas to lower its taxes.
SILICON VALLEY INVESTORS BACK SHOPINSYNC APP
A group of Silicon Valley-based investors, including Vijay Ragavan, former head of engineering at Internet company,Yahoo, are backing a four-month-old ecommerce technology startup ShopInSync.
The firm has built an app that enables shoppers to search and buy products from various online retailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon by integrating them on to a single platform. The app, which was released on Monday on Google’s Android platform, offers features such as comparison of product prices. It also enables consumers to collaborate with friends and family to buy products via an integrated messaging service.

SCIENTISTS MAKE BREAKTHROUGH IN DIABETES RESEARCH
Researchers have identified a new fingerprint of inflammation that may be able to predict which patients with obesity may also develop Type 2 diabetes.The team from the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) quantified inflammatory proteins from blood immune system cells and combined the measurements mathematically to identify dominant inflammatory proteins. Specifically, they identified Th17 cells, known to be involved in autoimmune diseases, as a dominant cell type in Type 2 diabetes.
