FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE TO BE CHIEF GUEST AT REPUBLIC DAY PARADE
Though there is no official announcement -either from India or France- regarding Mr Hollande being the chief guest at the Republic Day, it is understood that the invitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the French President was extended last month and it has been accepted.This year’s Republic Day Parade saw US President Barack Obama as the chief guest, who was accompanied by First Lady Michelle Obama.
TRADE MUST TOUCH $200 BILLION BY 2025
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the trade between India and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (Asean) should increase to $100 billion by 2020 and to $200 billion by 2025. The Prime Minister also intends to set up an Asean-India innovation platform to facilitate commercialisation of low-cost technologies, technology transfer and collaborative research and development projects.
NITI AAYOG TO ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE WITH CHINA’S THINK TANK DRC
Taking a step towards closer economic ties with China and to deliberate on macro economic issues, a team led by NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya will engage in a dialogue with China’s Development Research Centre (DRC) from Monday.It will be the first dialogue between NITI Aayog and the DRC after the body was constituted to replace the erstwhile Planning Commission. The two-day meeting will be held in Beijing. DRC is directly under the State Council of China and does research on strategic, long-term issues pertaining to economic and social development.
UNION MINISTER SARBANANDA SONOWAL APPOINTED ASSAM BJP CHIEF
BJP appointed Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal as Assam unit president and also the head of an election management committee it constituted for the poll-bound state, signalling that he could be its chief ministerial face.Mr Sonowal currently holds the independent charge of Sports and Youths Affairs Ministry.
ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK, JAPAN PLAN $16 BILLION PROGRAM TO SUPPORT ‘SUSTAINABLE’ ASIA INFRASTRUCTURE
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan on Saturday announced a five-year, $16 billion “partnership”, including an investment fund, to support “sustainable” infrastructure development in the region. The ADB said the first activity would be establishment of a trust fund by March 2016, to be capitalized with $1.5 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Another $10 billion for promoting public infrastructure will be provided by ADB and JICA in cofinancing to sovereign borrowers over five years.
AUROBINDO GETS USFDA NOD FOR PFIZER’S REVATIO
Aurobindo Pharma on Saturday received final approval from the USFDA to manufacture and market generic version of Pfizer’s Revatio (sildenafil citrate) tablets used in the treatment of high blood pressure in lungs. The product is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal.

DDB Worldwide is buying Group ABC, Brazil’s biggest independent advertising group with more than 2,000 employees, after a relationship that has spanned more than 17 years. The local trade press is estimating the deal at one billion reais in local currency, or about $265 million.
