DELHI INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL BEGINS

Since 2007, the Delhi International Arts Festival has been bringing to the city some of the best cultural performances from across the world. This year, the festival opened at the magnificient Purana Quila with a multi-syled classical dance production of Vande Mataram directed by Prathibha Prahlad, who is also the founder and festival director. The evening continued with a Bamboo orchestra from Taiwan and acts by artistes from Israel and Egypt.



400 CRORE TO SET UP A BUFFER STOCK OF PULSES

Sending a strong signal to hoarders and speculators, the Centre on Friday announced its decision to set up a buffer stock of pulses from this year’s kharif marketing season at an estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore from the Price Stabilisation Fund. The government authorised the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) to procure — as and when pulses harvest comes in November and December— 30,000 tonnes of tur and 10,000 tonnes of urad from farmers at prevailing market rates and sell in the open market.


PAKISTAN, RUSSIA SIGN 1,100-KM GAS PIPELINE AGREEMENT

Pakistan and Russia on Friday signed a major agreement to build a 1,100-km gas pipeline from Lahore to Karachi, that will take cooperation between the two Cold War-era adversaries “to a new level”. The agreement was jointly signed by Pakistan Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.


MAHINDRA COMVIVA ENTERS PAYMENTS BANK MARKET IN INDIA

Following the Reserve Bank of India’s decision to issue licenses to 11 payments banks, Mahindra Comviva, which has a 25 per cent market share in the global mobile money market, announced on Friday that it is entering the Indian market to provide the technological solutions and infrastructure to the payments banks in India. So far, it has already tied up with two out of the 11 and is in talks with some of the others.


ADITYA BIRLA GROUP ENTERS ECOMMERCE, LAUNCHES ONLINE FASHION PORTAL ABOF.COM

Textiles-to-telecom conglomerate Aditya Birla Group on Friday entered pureplay ecommerce by launching fashion portal abof.com, which sells about 55 brands including those of the parent group.


THYSSENKRUPP TO SET UP ELEVATOR FACTORY IN PUNE, PLANS RS 300 CRORE INVESTMENT

ThyssenKrupp Elevator has announced that it will set up a new multipurpose manufacturing facility in the Chakan Industrial Area in Pune, investing 44 million euros (Rs 300 crore).


 AIFF U-17 BOYS THRASH LITTLE ANGELS TO WIN SUBROTO CUP TITLE

The AIFF Academy boys outplayed Little Angels Paradise Secondary School of Manipur 4-1 to clinch the Subroto Cup U-17 title at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday. The AIFF Academy cadets, who came into the final on the back of a 2-0 win against Indonesia, were off to a shaky start as the Manipuris took the lead in the sixth minute.


RANJEET, ARTHI CLINCH TITLES

Davis Cupper V.M. Ranjeet and top seed Arthi Muniyan won the men’s and women’s titles in the Tribune Cup Rs. 200,000 AITA-ranking tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Friday.
